A&P Australia Ranks Third in ADM Top 20 Defence SME.

14 Feb 2023 Press Releases

A&P Australia has ranked 3rd in the Top 20 Defence SME survey conducted by the Australian Defence Magazine (ADM) for year 2022.

For over 20 years ADM has conducted the Defence Top 40 Contractors and Top 20 SME annual surveys, data which is used by government, defence, and industry both locally and internationally as a benchmark for the Australian Defence Industry. The annual survey seeks to recognise the best performing small and medium defence companies in Australia.

A&P Australia’s placement as third in the Top 20 SME’s follows a significant year for A&P which has seen the company deliver major engineering packages under the Sea 3030-2 Capability Assurance Programme and grow its Australian In-Country contribution and turnover.

In November 2022, A&P Australia completed the largest ship repair project that has taken place in Sydney in the last 15 years.
Refit Period 21 (RP 21) spanned eleven-months at an estimated cost of $100 million, with a 500 strong daily workforce and a network of over 50 suppliers.

The completion of RP 21 marked the final stage of the Sea 3030-2 Capability Assurance Project, a four year, $180 million programme which has been delivered as a mid-life upgrade to combat obsolescence, improve performance and “Australianise” HMAS Choules.

SEA 3030 consisted of 44 enhancement areas, which have translated into 102 discrete engineering design changes. A&P have been responsible for the design, procurement and installation of these changes that commenced in late 2018 and will conclude in 2023.

David McGinley, CEO of A&P Australia said that ADM’s announcement that A&P Australia has ranked 3rd in ADM’s Top 20 Defence SME Survey is testament to A&P’s own growth in capability and its commitment to Defence and the development of sovereign industrial capability.

David said: “The last four years have been an exciting journey for A&P, the company has changed significantly during this time almost doubling in size and have built much broader relationships with Defence and local industry.”

“To deliver these projects we have implemented new technologies, expanded our supply chain and enhanced sovereign capability by facilitating new industry partnerships to combine capabilities in order to deliver the outcomes required by Defence.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those who have been part of Sea 3030 and RP 21 and also ADM for recognising A&P as a significant stakeholder in Australia’s defence industry.”
