A&P Australia and Babcock Australasia work together to maintain RAN capability.
Atlantic & Peninsula Australia (A&P Australia) and Babcock Australasia (Babcock) have furthered their collaborative agreement to maintain a critical Royal Australian Navy asset, the ANZAC Class Frigate – HMAS Warramunga through her External Maintenance Period (EMP).
Babcock delivers waterfront maintenance for the Anzac Class frigates, both in Henderson (WA) and Garden Island in Sydney as part of the Warship Asset Management Agreement (WAMA) Alliance.
A&P Australia has been supporting HMAS Warramunga’s EMP since December 2022, through the provision of a team of ship repair managers and supervisors who have been seconded to fulfil maintenance and production support roles throughout the duration of the maintenance program. The EMP was completed in May and A&P are continuing to provide support for HMAS Arunta’s EMP and dry docking.
This recent initiative follows A&P Australia and Babcock’s collaborative submission (as Team Bower) to the Commonwealth’s Request for Tender for the Regional Maintenance Provider East (RMP-E) to provide regional fleet maritime sustainment services under Plan Galileo.
Managing Director A&P Australia Scott Willey said that A&P and Babcock’s ongoing collaboration will deliver real benefits to the Royal Australian Navy.
Mr Willey said: “Working with Babcock on Warramunga has been a great opportunity to further demonstrate our collaboration and integrate our teams who are utilising their collective experience to solve problems and drive best practice.
“The Commonwealth will rely on industry collaboration for the success of Plan Galileo, the collective capabilities and approach to building relationships offered by A&P and Babcock will deliver real benefits to the Royal Australian Navy as demonstrated by this project and hopefully many more to come.”
Babcock Australasia Acting Managing Director – Marine Simon Spratt said the company’s close working relationship with A&P and industry enables Babcock to continue to provide a leading sovereign maritime sustainment solution to the RAN.
“Babcock and A&P have clearly demonstrated that we can provide the safe delivery of the Navy’s sustainment needs on the East Coast, benefiting from our shared ideas, diversification of platform knowledge, collaborative supply chain engagement and workforce development opportunities,” Mr Spratt said.
Mr David McGinley, CEO Atlantic & Peninsula Marine Services Ltd said “A&P and Babcock have a strong track record of collaboration, which has resulted in the delivery of some of the most significant global maritime projects in recent times. This journey started with the delivery of the Queen Elizabeth Aircraft Carriers and has continued to expand over the last decade.
“Our track record of collaboration provides assurance that both companies work together effectively to the benefit of our government customers. Our collaboration on HMAS Warramunga is the first project to demonstrate the benefits of this relationship and how A&P and Babcock’s collective capabilities and experience can offer enhanced outcomes for the naval assets which support keeping Australia safe and secure.
